Questions every woman should ask about Alpha Hydroxy Acids in general and ExfoGel in particular:

What is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid?

Alpha Hydroxy Acids, or AHA's, are found naturally in food products. These acids include lactic acid from milk, citric acid from citrus fruits, tartaric acid from grapes and glycolic acid from sugar cane. While not all acids are useful in skin care, the dramatic results produced by the skillful use of glycolic acid has made this particular AHA an extremely valuable component of quality skin care.

How does it work?

Alpha Hydroxy Acids, glycolic in particular, accelerate the skin's natural exfoliation process by weakening the bonds that hold dead skin cells together. This process allows dead skin cells to exfoliate off the skin more quickly, and creates a denser, tighter skin cell composition. This also stimulates more rapid growth of new skin cells, which are softer and more hydrated, resulting in a visible reduction in fine lines. As a bonus, skin free from dead skin cells can more effectively benefit from topically applied products that are more readily absorbed into the skin.

Can Alpha Hydroxy Acid make the skin look younger?

Because the rate of cell renewal slows as we age, it is vitally important to assist the skin by supplementing its natural exfoliation process with hydroxy acid treatments. Removing dead cells from the skin's surface not only makes the skin appear fresh and healthy, it stimulates new cell generation. Research indicates that it can even increase collagen levels, helping to reduce the effects of skin aging.

How does Only Yourx' ExfoGel™ compare to other AHA products?

There is really no comparison between ExfoGel and standard over-the-counter AHA products. Because ExfoGel™ is sold only by licensed skin care professionals, we can formulate stronger, more active products that produce quicker, more dramatic results. ExfoGel products contain natural, not synthetic, glycolic acid that has been pH adjusted. The products feature a higher free acid percent, meaning the glycolic acid available in the product is not watered-down with ingredients, giving you maximum results. Our home care program is also very result-oriented in that we offer a Duo-Moisture system that features an application of a pure glycolic acid gel followed by a separate gel hydrator and moisture cream, quite different from the combination exfoliant/moisturizer products available from drug and department stores. This duo-moisture system will alleviate any adverse reactions such as irritation or dehydration, which often occurs with over-the-counter alpha hydroxy acid products.

What specific results will I see?

The most immediate result, noticeable within just a few weeks, is a more even, bright skin complexion. Skin is noticeably softer and smoother with visibly diminished fine lines, improved skin clarity, tighter, more toned skin, increased elasticity, reduction of clogged pores and blemishes, sunspots fade more rapidly, and the complexion regains its youthful glow.

Is ExfoGel™ suitable for all skin types?

Since ExfoGel is available in a variety of strengths, there is a strength designed to suit all skin types. ExfoGel can be used on very dry to very oily skin. It is very beneficial for aging skin, acne skin and uneven, pigmented skin. Before you begin using ExfoGel, your skin will be carefully analyzed to determine the product strength and treatment plan best suited for your particular needs.

Can ExfoGel be used in conjunction with my regular skincare regimen?

Alpha Hydroxy Acids are ideal for use with other products since they can enhance the penetration of ingredients into the skin. ExfoGel can be incorporated into any skincare program, no matter what skin type, as long as your skincare specialist recommends the appropriate percent strength for your skin. It is applied after your cleanser and toner, and before serum (such as Only Yourx Whitening Serum), acne medication, moisturizer and sunscreen. Only Yourx products are designed to work together, so best results will be obtained by using our products and in accordance with a DermaSolutions™ program.

How often is it safe to exfoliate?

Frequency varies according to skin type, so there's no rule of thumb. Generally though, it's best to start slowly and build up over time, to ensure that whatever method you're using is well tolerated.

Are there any facts or precautions I need to know about using products containing Glycolic Acid?

Yes, here are some facts to be aware of.

Peels - Exfoliation

Exfoliation is the process by which dead cells are removed from the skin.  When we're younger, this process naturally occurs at a rate of about 28 days.  From their place of origin in the epidermis, cells travel up to the outer layer of skin, or stratum corneum.  As new cells rise to the skin's surface, the dead ones are sloughed off.  Beginning around age 30, the skin's sloughing ability decreases, an occurrence that causes a thickening of the stratum corneum - the skins outer layer.  This can lead to a host of skin concerns, including a rough texture, clogged pores, and a dull, lifeless looking complexion.  Since their introduction to the Cosmetic Industry in the early nineties, alpha hydroxy acids have taken skin care to new heights. Finally, here was something that could do what was promised, something that could actually improve the skin instead of just temporarily affecting the way it looked.
